A Day at the Stones

We pumped our pedals furiously, expecting our worn and trusted steeds to carry us to the pinnacle of the hill littered with coarse patches of evergreen grass. The steep slope stood tall and proud, a tank awaiting to obliterate our onrushing calvary, our battle tested legs strained and pushed but were no match for the firepower of this solitary behemoth. Resigned to defeat, we dismounted and waved the white flag, walking our steeds up the slope as a sign of non-aggression and sheepishly entering its encampment. The conditions were as expected, majestic and serene. A set of four stones served as seats, with us only occupying three, we looked apologetically at the empty mound, knowing that if we had visited just a few months sooner its current state of loneliness could have been avoided. Perilous circumstances had obstructed that possibility, we all had to disperse, peas in an exploding pod firing off in varied directions, unsure of whether we would meet again. A mountainous tree provided shade as we made intermittent voyages into the soothing embrace of the sunlight, disentangling from its clutches when its love became smothering; we took out a bag of our own evergreen grass, ground to perfection, its strong smell spilt out when its airtight container was opened, wafting through the air as it rode the lazy, tepid wind. We transferred it from one container to another, from plastic to paper jail, and wrapped it tightly in its new cell, suffocating it. As we casually spoke about whatever thoughts and theories came to mind, we voluntarily sparked our own forest fire, holding a flame to the end of the cell of our ground grass and inhaling its life force with murderous intent. As we took in the essence of its life and times we too began to ascend, our levels of consciousness matching the level of any deity, imagined or real. By now the embrace of the sun was nowhere to be found and the shade of the tree had been rendered useless, we puffed, puffed, puffed and passed as the ‘Raindrop’ speaker drenched us in the enthralling sounds of music.
